Children are the best gift of God. It is the sole duty of the parents to give thanks for this best gift. The way Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) gave thanks.
Parents who have or will have a newborn child should thank God for having a child in the language taught by Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Then pray for blessings and welfare for the child. Praying and praying for one’s parents and believing Muslims.
Duas for the newborn Child:
After the birth of his child, Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) thanked Allah and prayed for his children, parents, and believers.
English Transliteration: Alhamdulillah Hillaji Wahaba Li Alal Kibari Ismaila wa Ishaqba. Inna Rabbi Lasamiyud Duai. Rabbijhaalni muqbimas salati wa min jurriyati rabbana wa takbabbal dua. Rabbanag firli waliwalidaiyya wa lilmu minina yaoma yakumul hisab.
English translation: “All praise is due to Allah, Who has given me Ishmael and Isaac in my old age. Surely my Lord is the Hearer of prayer. O my Lord! Make me one who establishes prayer, and of my descendants, O our Lord! Accept my prayers. O, Allah! On the day when the reckoning will be established, you will forgive me and my parents and the believers.” (Surah Ibrahim: verses 39-41)
The verses mentioned in the Quran prove that after the birth of a child (boy or girl), thanking God and praying for the child, praying for one’s parents and believers is a noble and rewarding act of Islam.
Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) did not forget to give thanks to Allah for the joy of having children as well as to pray for children, parents, and believers. This matter was so pleasing to Allah that Allah has made his thanks and supplications for the Muslim Ummah in the Qur’an.

May Allaah grant the Muslim Ummah the Tawfeeq of blessings and welfare for the children, parents, and believing Muslims, including giving thanks for having a newborn child. Give every newborn the tawfiq of following the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Amen.
