Importance and Benefit of this Night:

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “The month of Ramadaan is the month in which the Qur’an was revealed, a guide and a clear guide for mankind, and a distinguisher between right and wrong and between right and wrong.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, verses: 185)

The month of Ramadan has been more auspicious than any other month due to the revelation of the great book Al-Quran. And the night of the revelation of the Quran, Laylatul Qadr, is one of the most significant nights of Ramadan. Regarding this, Allah Ta’ala said, ‘I have sent it down on the night of Qadr. Do you know what the night of Qadr is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. (Surah Al-Qadr, verses: 1-3)

Explaining this verse, The great commentator Abdullah Ibn Abbas (R.) said, “The worship of this night is better than the worship of another thousand months.” (Ibn Abbas: 654 pages in Tanbirul Mikbas Min Tafsir)

Tabai Mujahid (R.) said, “The meaning of this is, ‘This night’s worship, recitation, resurrection, and other deeds are better than a thousand months of worship except for Laylatul Al-Qadr.’ The commentator has explained this is the correct explanation. (Ibn Kathir: 18 volumes, 223 pages)

Ibn Kathir (may Allah be pleased with him) said about in Surah Qadr: It is narrated on the authority of Ali ibn Urwa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was talking about four devotees who are the Children of Israel who worshiped Allah continuously for eighty years. They did not detach themselves from worship even for a moment.

These four famous devotees are the Prophet of Allah Zakariya (a.s.), Ayub (a.s.), Hajqil ibn A’juj (a.s.), and Usha ibn Nuh (a.s.). Hearing this, the Companions were astonished. At that time Gabriel (a.s.) came and said, ‘O Muhammad (peace be upon him)! Are your followers surprised to hear this? God has prepared something better for them. Then Surah Qadr is recited. (Ibn Kathir: 18 volumes, 223 pages)

how to find Laylatul Qadr night:

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) once went on to discuss a mujahid of the Bani Isra’īl and said that he lived a thousand years. During this long life he was engaged in jihad in the way of Allah. He did not restrain his arms even once.

The Companions were astonished to hear of this incident and began to regret that the children of Israel had been able to worship much more because of their long life. Achieved many rewards. If we were given a long life like theirs, then we could worship as much as them, gain much more virtue.

At this time, Allah the Almighty revealed Surah Al-Qadr and explained that although the Muhammadan Ummah has been given less life, they have been given so much opportunity to attain Reward and nearness to Allah Almighty which has not been given to any previous Ummah. If the Muhammadan Ummah worships only one night (Lailatul Qadar), they will be rewarded with more than a thousand months of worship. (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

There are many authentic hadiths about the dignity of Lailatul Qadr. Narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA), when the month of Ramadan came, the Prophet (SAW) used to say, ‘O people! The glorious Ramadan has come to you. This month is very blessed. The gates of Paradise are opened this month. And the gates of hell are closed. There is a night in this month that is better than a thousand months. He who is deprived of its welfare is indeed miserable. (Musnad Ahmad: 7108; Sunan Nasai: 2106)

It is further narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) that the Prophet (SAW) said, ‘Whoever worships on the night of Qadr with faith and dedication, Allah Ta’ala will forgive him all the sins of the life behind him. (Bukhari: 35; Muslim: 760 and 1268)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to perform Iʿtikāf for the last ten days in order to receive Laylat al-Qadr. Hazrat Ayesha (RA) said, ‘The Prophet (SAW) used to perform Iʿtikāf for the last ten days of every Ramadan till his death.’ (Bukhari: 2326, Muslim: 1172). ‘But in the year in which he dies, he performs Iʿtikāf for twenty days.’ (Bukhari: 4998). ‘After the death of the Prophet (peace be upon him) his wives used to perform Iʿtikāf. (Bukhari: 2026, Tirmidhi: 790.) Therefore, all men and women should seek Lailatul Qadr as much as possible. Iʿtikāf for this purpose is a very virtuous deed.
