There are many of us who fall asleep right after dinner. Again, there are many people who do various deeds for the purpose of Allah’s satisfaction after eating dinner. Therefore, as Muslims, we all need to know which prayer our beloved Prophet (peace be upon him) used to recite before going to sleep.
Allah says, ‘I have made your sleep for rest.’ (Surah An-Naba; verse 9) Sleep removes all kinds of thoughts from the human brain and gives all kinds of comfort and peace to the brain and heart.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
- Clean your bed before sleeping.
- Lying on the right side during bedtime
- Then recite this prayer-
Dua and Surah before Sleeping:
Transliteration: Allahumma aslamtu nafsi ilaika wa wajjahtu wajhi ilaika wa fauwaztu amri ilaika walja’tu zahri ilaika ragbata wa rahbatan ilaika la malja’a minka wa la manja’a minka illa-ika amantu bikata-bika. Allaji anjhalta wa bi nabiyyikallaji arsalat.
Translation: ‘O Allah! I surrendered myself to you, I turned to you, I entrusted my work to you, and I took refuge in you with fear and interest. There is no place of refuge and salvation except You. I believe in the Qur’an sent by you and I believe in the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). (Sahih Bukhari and Muslim)
Virtue: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to a man, ‘O so-and-so when you go to bed, perform ablution like the prayer.’ Then lie down on your right side and recite that prayer. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘If you die that night, you will die on Islam, and if you get up in the morning, you will rise with goodness.’

When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) went to bed at night, he would say:
*Allahumma bismika aamu-tu wa ahaiya *
Translation: ‘O Allah! I am dying in your name and I will live by your grace.’ (Sahih Bukhari)
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to recite the following prayer with his right hand under his cheek while lying down
*Allahumma qbini aya-baka yaoma tab’ashu i’ba-daka.*
Translation: ‘O Allah! Save me from Thy chastisement, when thou shalt raise up thy servants from the grave.’ (Jame At-Tirmidhi)
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: It will suffice for a person to recite the last two verses of Surah al-Baqarah while sleeping at night. ‘(Saheeh Bukhari and Muslim)
Also, a servant recites Ayatul Kusri while sleeping at night but a guard is appointed by Allah and Satan cannot come to him and (cannot harm any of his wealth). (Sahih Bukhari)
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to recite Surah al-Ikhlaas, Surah al-Falaq, and Surah Al-Nas while sleeping at night. (Sahih Bukhari and Muslim)
It has been narrated in Jami ‘al-Tirmidhi that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) asked Hazrat Fatima (may Allaah be pleased with her) to recite Subhan Allaah 33 times, Al Hamdulillah 33 times and Allaahu Akbar 34 times while sleeping at night.

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَمَا أَظَلَّتْ وَرَبَّ الأَرَضِينَ وَمَا أَقَلَّتْ وَرَبَّ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَمَا أَضَلَّتْ كُنْ لِي جَارًا مِنْ شَرِّ خَلْقِكَ كُلِّهِمْ جَمِيعًا أَنْ يَفْرُطَ عَلَىَّ أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ أَوْ أَنْ يَبْغِيَ عَلَىَّ عَزَّ جَارُكَ وَجَلَّ ثَنَاؤُكَ وَلاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ وَلاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ
Transliteration: Allahumma rabbas samawatis sabayi wa ma ajallat wa rabbal ardina wa ma aqallat wa rabbash shayatbini wa ma adalat kun li jharam min sharri khalqbiqa qullihim jhamia. Ainyafrutba alaiyya ahadum minhum ao aiyabgia alaiyya azya o jhalla chanauka wa la ilaha gairuka o la ilaha illa anta. ‘(Muslim, Mishkat)
Translation: “O Allah! The Lord of the seven Texture and over whom He casts His shadow, the Lord of the seven Sky and all that He has raised, and the Lord of the devils and those whom He has led astray!”

AL-WAAH’IDU
- Three-time Recite Durood-e-Shareef.
- Recite this beautiful name of Allah 100 times.
- In-Sha-Allah your will Baby/child get a peaceful sleep.
